THE ROLE OF SUPERVISION

In an increasing number of professions, it is recognised that people in stressful, responsible jobs need a regular, confidential space to unload and to explore the often complex landscape of their demanding careers.

Professional Supervision is a process in which we jointly take an ‘over-view’, focusing on your role – your triumphs and tribulations, your effectiveness and ethical practice, and your ongoing welfare.

You can step back and see issues clearly, enabling you to look after yourself, maintain your fitness to practise, and thus also protect your service users and the overall health of your organisation.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Independent Supervision is for anyone carrying significant responsibility or under a lot of stress with no acceptable ‘no blame’ outlet in their organisation.

Those in the caring professions, such as Counsellors and Psychotherapists, have long known how essential it is to have an independent, confidential place to go to unload.

I also offer this facility to support Lawyers, Teachers, Emergency Service Personnel, Financial Industry Workers, Health Professionals, Social Workers, Armed Service Personnel, Sales Executives, Managers and many others.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

You come to see me, typically once a month, for either an hour or 90 minutes per session.

I am happy to hold regular sessions with groups of colleagues in the workplace. Sharing concerns and successes often helps workers to see each other as human beings, and gives us the essential ‘permission to be imperfect’.

You can use the time as you like. Often, Clients choose a focus, explore it, and then make a ‘bridge’ back to the outside and practical application.

Areas in which we can work include:

  • Taking a ‘Professional Health Check’
  • Unloading work stresses and pressures to reduce their negative impact
  • Gaining a new perspective on work issues
  • Exploring tendencies to overwork, self-sabotage, undervalue and/or isolate
  • Learning de-stressing and relaxation techniques
  • Putting the ‘Soul’ back into your work
  • Preparing for a career and/or lifestyle change
  • Achieving a better work/life balance

HOW AM I QUALIFIED TO SUPPORT YOU?

I have 20 years’ experience in business practice, training and consultancy, and understand the workings of many professions.

I hold a Diploma in Supervision and Mentoring from the Iron Mill Institute in Exeter.
